The gap between urban and rural areas is the most distinct gap in the development of economy and society in China. The results recently issued by the team of "The 10th fiveyear program" topic of the National Education Science------"Research on the Fairness ofChinese Higher Education"------shows that the educational gap between urban and ruralareas is the most important and the most remarkable one in the gaps between urban and rural areas. At present, the educational gap between urban and rural areas has become the "bottleneck" that directly baffles the realization of education goals of a better-off society. The inequality of chances of receiving education between urban and rural areas is one of the long-existing problems in our country. It has influenced the balanced development of the society, the economy and the culture in our country. This is seriously against the new development strategies that are "establishing overall, harmonious and sustainable development view" and "five plans of whole" which were put forward by the Third Plenary Session of the 16th Party Central Committee of the CCP .Therefore, it is an urgent issue that needs our government to solve it as soon as possible.Firstly the author describes the theoretical basis of educational gap between urban and rural areas. Secondly it describes the present situation of the educational gap in urban and rural areas through the demonstration analysis method. It describes mainly from two respects: the quantity and quality of education development. Thirdly it analyses detailedly and thoroughly the reasons why the educational gap between urban and rural areas becomes wider and wider in the view of economics. The enlarged income gap between urban and rural residents is the immediate factor: The limited income seriously limits the peasant's education investment ability to their children. In the same time the thesis analyses the difference of awareness of education investment between urban and rural residents from the aspects of their different quality life styles and concepts. Then, it analyses that rural education investment and the income isn't symmetry, which caused by rural brain drain in the view of overflow-effect model in human capital between two regions and probes into the dual structures of urban and rural areas, our national long-term unreasonable education investment policy and so on. At last the thesis put forward the countermeasures of narrowing the educational gap between urban and rural areas on the basis of the above analysis. In order to make the situation better, we should try our best to increase peasants' income, reduce the income gaps of urban and rural residents, changethe dual structures in urban and rural areas, set up the compensation organization of the rural educational cost and dynamic of investment of strengthening the rural manpower capital.
