This thesis reports the experimental study on the possibility and effects of the students involved evaluation in oral teaching in Chinese middle schools.Evaluation of the students' speaking is a key stage in oral teaching. By evaluation students can get positive information about their speaking, making it possible for them to improve their speaking ability. But for a long time, speaking evaluation has been neglected or only dominated just by the teacher in middle schools in China, which is one of the main reasons for the students' low level in this aspect. Researchers home and abroad have got into the area, but most of them mainly focus on the techniques of the teacher's evaluation while the effects of the students involved evaluation haven't been paid enough attention to. So the researcher tried to solve the problem in another way by a teaching experiment, in which the researcher finds that the evaluation with the students' involving under the teacher's direction has achieved a lot through a three-month experiment in a middle school. This method can greatly motivate the students to be braver and more interested in speaking, which has greatly promoted the students to speak and has great active effects in improving the students' speaking ability, especially on the students who are shy or poor in speaking. The statistics of the experiment show that the students in the experiment group have improved a lot in nearly all the aspects in speaking especially in the affective area. According to the questionnaire and the interviews, the researcher finds that the students' attitudes towards speaking have obviously improved. It is also found after the experiment that the students' ability of cooperating and attitudes towards cooperation are well developed by peer evaluation which results in an overall progress of their English.It is also found that the teacher's direction and organizing are vital to the efficiency of students involved evaluation. Enough direction and training should be given to the students before the evaluation so that they can understand the aims and procedure of the work as well as to get a good awareness of their own participation and contribution to the group.
