| With the development of our country reform and opening policy, our country connects with other countries more frequently, English becomes more and more important as an international language, and English teaching as one part of elementary education is being paid more and more attention day by day.Since English teaching is applied to primary school in our country, it has made much progress. Teaching scale expanded gradually; teaching standard enhances increasingly; teacher's quality had made great progress. But at the same time we might see that there's still contradiction and conflicts between the existing primary school English teaching approach and the new curriculum reform.In modern society, people pay more attention to person's cooperation consciousness and the ability of communication. The cooperative learning as a new kind of teaching theory and pattern, it is based on the cooperative learning group, systematically involved various factors in teaching, regards group's result as the evaluation criteria, in this way it promotes all students to achieve the teaching goal together. The cooperative learning plays an important role in arousing classroom study atmosphere, stimulating the students'interests in English study, improving student's academic achievement and forming the good non- cognitional quality of the student.Under such background, basing on the cooperative learning theory, studies Education Theory, New Curriculum Theory, Language Teaching Theory and English teaching features of primary school, with the aid of philology analysis method and the empirical studies, the writer advocates cooperative learning on English teaching in primary school is feasible and discusses experiment strategy and practical approach. The paper divides into four parts:First part, an overview of historical development of cooperative learning. The cooperative learning practice has been under a series of changes and is being perfected. The present cooperative learning aims at improving the old teaching approach.Second part, the application of cooperative learning is suitable to new curriculum. Cooperative learning is one kind of new teaching form which new curriculum reform emphasizes on. It is different from the traditional approach that focuses on student's activity and group work.Thirdly, the writer analyses cooperative learning on English teaching in primary school. According to cooperative learning theory, the author gives the definition of cooperative learning under new curriculum; exploring the factors and features of cooperative learning in primary school and its remarkable value and superiority.Fourthly, experimental study. In order to prove whether cooperative learning on English teaching in Primary school is effective or not, the author carries out an experimental study by choosing two classes as the subjects of the study.
