218 college students came from normal university and medical college were investigated about the general situation and factors of there career orientation and academic motivation; moreover, the effect of college students' consistency between major,career choice and career orientation on academic motivation was discussed.The study showed that:1.The sequence of the number of students' distribution in the six career orientation is: Social, Investigative, Artistic, Conventional, Enterprising, Realistic.2.Gender, major and the type of school can effect the career orientation of college students: more males than females were realistic; more females than males were artistic, social and conventional; the students majoring arts were inclined to artistic, while the students majoring science were inclined to investigative; the medicine college students were more inclined to realist than normal university students.3.The distribution of college students' academic motivation was negative skewness, the distribution of most of the sub-dimension was negative skewness except avoid-failure motivation.4.Gender, major and the type of school can effect the college students' academic motivation: the males had stronger extrinsic motivation than females; the students majoring arts had stronger pursue-success motivation and intrinsic motivation, while the students majoring science had stronger avoid-failure motivation; the medicine college students' total academic motivation was stronger than normal university students, so were their pursue-success motivation and extrinsic motivation.5.There were quite highly consistency among major, career choice and career orientation.6.The consistency among major, career choice and career orientation effected on academic motivation: the students who had same major and career choice had stronger intrinsic motivation; the students whose major, career choice and career orientation were not all the same had stronger extrinsic motivation; The effect differed among the different type of students: the consistency of normal university students had no significant effect on their academic motivation, but in the medicine college, the students who had same major and career choice had stronger intrinsic motivation, and so was their total academic motivation; the students whose major, career choice and career orientation were not all the same had stronger extrinsic motivation; the...
