Education in Chinese has been emphasizing that foundation should be laid for students'virtues. Curriculum Norms in the year of 2001, which placed the third-dimension teachingaims in a prominent place, sufficiently confirms that curriculum reforms attach importance tothe emotions and moral virtue of students. In the practical teaching, what contents can betterachieve the teaching aim is a problem we must ponder. The theoretical contents of traditionalvirtues, which are a source of moral education in the school, should become more importantresources for educating the students' virtue.Based on the realistic consideration traditional virtues are mentioned again. Traditionalvirtues need inheriting and spreading, from the angle of social development, cultureinheritance and personal growth. Textbooks are tools to educate students in virtue, therefore,it is a seminal step to explore and use Chinese textbooks loaded with traditional virtues.This paper makes a survey of the traditional virtues in the Chinese textbooks, andexplores their characteristics. Furthermore, it analyzes the advantages of textbooks thatinherit traditional virtues, from the following aspects: the achievement of curriculum aims,the representation of traditional virtues and the moral education related to life and activities.In the study of these textbooks, there are some defects in their inheritance of the traditionalvirtues, for example, value on ideal morality is far from what the students demand at present;on account of the disorder of contents arrangement, lack of teaching guidance in the textbook,which fails to guide in the Chinese moral education, will tend to have a great influence on themoral education of Chinese teaching. Therefore, this paper investigates the use of textbooksand the teaching of traditional virtues, only to find out many problems and makes a furtheranalysis of them. Finally it is expected that these problems will be solved gradually as theChinese moral education becomes more systematic and scientific.This paper mainly employs many research methods to reflect the traditional virtues andthe use of the Chinese textbooks more accurately and truthfully, and moreover, tries to makea scientific, reasonable analysis and evaluation. Because the author wants to give some adviceand help to the systematic and scientific development of Chinese moral education;in thepractical sense, this paper can provide a wide horizon for the moral education and maketeachers strengthen their consciousness of educating the students' virtues. At the same time, itis expected that the Chinese moral education will better achieve the object of cultivatingstudents with the guide of traditional virtues.
