On The Application Of Team Teaching In Primary English Teaching

Team teaching can be defined as a method that a group of two or more teachers work together to plan, teach and assess the teaching and learning for the same group of students. Team teaching came into being in the 50's, 20 century; but it became popular in the 80's. Nowadays, it has been adopted by teachers in about 80% elementary and middle schools of America. Literatures have shown that team teaching has a positive effect on students'performance. By team teaching, the students'diversity on learning demand can be satisfied. Additionally, teacher's professional development can be achieved.By the introduction of team teaching into primary English teaching, more teaching strategies can be produced by teaming; more situations used for the students to practice English can be created by the teachers; more guidance from the teachers can be available for the students. In the paper, a hypothesis is set on the basis of literatures and analysis of the theories of team teaching.In the preface of the thesis, a survey which is about the students'English learning is done; it shows that the curriculum goals cannot be achieved successfully. The interviews to the teachers discover the reasons which may be limitation of large class. Primary teaching methods should be changed in order to inspire the students, to give them more interesting situations to practice English, to provide more learning methods and to make the class active. On the basis of literatures, the study of team teaching in primary English teacher is identified.The body of the thesis can be divided into three parts.In part 1, theories for this study are introduced. The main theories include synergetic, constructivism, learning style, group dynamics, essences of language and foreign language teaching.
