Wei Shusheng, who is called "Contemporary Confucius" and "King of quality-oriented education", is a famous reformist in Chinese educational circles. His educational thought began to attract people attention at the beginning of 1980s. However, what they used to concern was his contribution to classroom teaching, study instruction, class advisers' work, knowledge imparting and people educating , school administration and so on, rather than his achievements on family educational thought. In this thesis, I've done a preliminary research on his family education thought by means of induction and comparison. The content includes three parts: the background, the content and methods, and the characteristics of his family educational thought.Wei Shusheng's family education thought is not inborn, but formed in the long-term educational practice. He has been influenced by the family education he received and accomplished his success through the time. He has received socialist education since childhood and the tortuous road the people's Republic of China traversed strengthened his socialist belief, thus his dialectical thought formed. As he grew up under the family education especially his mother's discussed education, the democratic thought took root in his mind since young. What's more, the educational practice of more than 20 years and the long-term discussion with tens of thousands of guardians become the source of his family education thought.Wei Shusheng believes that, in order to train socialist workers and constructors, family education should include five parts: the moral education, the intellectual instruction, the sports education, the esthetic education and the labouring education. In the aspect of family moral education, he thinks that it is most important to educate students to treat their parents with fifial respect, which is the basis of all good moral qualities. Meanwhile, it is also important to educate students to love their motherland and homeland, to pursue the true, the good and the beautiful, and to develop the qualities of being hard-working, tolerant and grateful, and to develop the anti-setback ability, strong will, competition consciousness and so on. In the aspect of family intellectual instruction, he suggests that guardians should instruct the children to study scientifically and regard study as fun, so as to instruct children to develop a good study habit and custom.
