The new curriculum reform in senior high schools is to be carried out nationwide. It is vital for us to explore the most effective teaching approach so as to meet the demands of the new curriculum standards. According to the results from the questionnaires on the learners' previous English learning situation, we found the teacher talks most of the English class time, with few opportunities for students to learn actively and communicate meaningfully. Therefore, we made a win-to-win cooperation between cooperative learning and task-based language teaching and put forward the approach of Cooperative Learning of Senior English on the Basis of TBLT in which learners are the center in teaching and learning, situations are the pillars of learning process, tasks serve as the main stream and cooperation is the principle of learning.The thesis consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 provides definitions of cooperative learning (CL) and task-based language teaching (TBLT) by surveying related studies and accordingly defines the present study Cooperative Learning of Senior English on the basis of TBLT (CL of SE On the basis of TBLT).Chapter 2 explores the rationale for cooperative learning of senior English on the basis of TBLT through the reviewing of the literature. This will lead to the analysis of the underlying theoretical rationale for it from the linguistic and social perspectives and also from learning and SLA theories.Chapter 3 provides a pattern for implementing cooperative learning of senior English on the basis of TBLT. The formation of cooperative learning groups, principles of designing cooperative learning tasks and classroom teaching procedures and how to evaluate the learning process are proposed in this chapter.Chapter 4 deals with the experimental research. To test the hypothesis of this study, the author conducted an experimental research in two classes at Changlian Middle School for a term. A questionnairesurvey and interviews were conducted too to support the experimental study. Then the relevant data were collected.Chapter 5 analyzes and discusses the collected data. And then sums up the findings of the experiment.Finally, a conclusion is made of the study: CL of SE On the Basis of TBLT not only improves learners' manifold abilities of English application, especially their output ability of English, but also contributes much to the development of learners' thinking quality and meta-cognitive awareness, as well as other fine qualities like autonomy, spirit of cooperation, self-esteem and self-confidence. And implications as well as suggestions for further studies are given.
