With the development of the theories of second language acquisition and cognitive psychology, the key point of English teaching turns from "teaching" to "learning". Moreover learning process is an active process of applying learning strategies consciously, which play an important role in language learning. According to the present situation of deaf students' English language learning and the researches on English learning strategies abroad and at home, the author makes a survey of English learning strategies of deaf students in high schools to investigate what strategies deaf students usually employ in their studies and give some advice on English teaching in deaf schools.First, altogether 38 students in Tianjin School for the Deaf were chosen to participate in the survey and 36 subjects handed in their valid questionnaires. The latest test scores of the district-held EFL test paper were also collected and the author chose students whose scores were listed from high to low. Out of all the subjects the first 10 students were chosen to be more successful language learners. The author analyzed the frequency of strategies application on the whole, language learners' strategies application, strategies application differences between boys and girls, strategies application differences between deaf students and hearing students. A Concise Statistics SPSS 10.0 is used to process the data with T-Test and Correlation Test analysis. In the end, some conclusions are drawn as follows:1 Deaf students do employ some strategies. Affective strategies come first among four strategies, while cognitive strategies come last.2 More successful deaf students use affective strategies and monitoring and evaluative strategies more frequently.3 Girls tend to employ more strategies than boys, and the differences are significant. Both of them seldom apply cognitive strategies, which implies that deaf students need more instructions on cognitive strategies.4 The main strategies application differences between deaf students and hearing students are deaf students can't listen to the teachers and read English out clearly.
