Taking the college students in the region of Wuhan as the research object, carrying out the main research approach of quantitative one combined with qualitative method, and utilizing literature collection as well as questionnaires to collect research materials, with the cross-angling of perspective of sociology and mass communication, It investigates the situations and reasons of the college students' on-line chat of four grades of the universities in region of Wuhan, as well as describes and probes whether and why the college students depend on on-line chat and tried my best to use the positive method.The full text is made of six parts. The first part includes the purpose, significance, literature and design of the research. The second part elaborates the reasons of the college students participating on-line chat. By investigating the motive that the college student participate on-line chat, the study discovers the negative attitude to the on-line chat of the college student is the dominating factor. The more the undergraduate approve the positive function, the more chat on the line, or else the less. The third part mainly elaborates various factors that affects the college students' participation of on-line chat. This chapter discovers the factors that mainly affect undergraduate to participate on-line chat include the individual factors, family factors, the social environments factors etc. Among them, the influence of individual factors is the most. By investigating various influence factors of undergraduates on-line chat, the survey discovers the factors that affects the college students to participate the on-line chat shouldn't be found on-line. The college students participation on-line chat also is not because various demands in realistic life did not get satisfied. The fourth part mainly studies whether the college student depend on on-line chat in a sense. By study and analysis, it discovers the undergraduates who depend on the on-line chat exist in the college, but only a few. It is not universe in total, and don't gain the advantage in quantity. The college students don't prevalently produce dependence. This is relevant to the college students' self-control. The fifth part mainly elaborates the influence of participating on-line chat on the realistic social interaction of the college students. The study discovers the influence of participating on-line chat on the realistic social interact of the college student is very small by comparing the realistic interact with on-line interact from interact object, interact degree, interact range, interact means as well as self-appraisal of the college students etc. The study regards the influence of the college students' on-line chat on their interaction is mainly active, but not negative. The negative influence is smaller. The last chapter sums up and discusses the study, and further probes the possibility and kinds of the influence factors of the college students depending on the on-line chat, and pays attention to attitude to on-line chat of the college students and influence of on-line chat on the realistic interact. At same time the study provides guidance for the college students depending on the on-line chat.
