Curriculum theory is an important part of education theory,so curriculum reform becomes a key to education reform. John Dewey has written: "Looking back some tries of modern education reform, we may spontaneously find that people have put the emphasis of reform on curriculum "(school and society, tomorrow school.the people's edncation press, 1994,254).The intension and extension of curriculum.for different people and in different circumstances,may have great different.Each understanding of curriculum implies a philosophy supposition,and marks what the kind of curriculum pays attention to,so all kinds of curriculum theory schools were formed . They are very significant for our curriculum reform.The study tries to discuss John Dewey's curriculum theory and its impiration to modernity.The dissertion contains four parts:The first part is about the era background and theory base (the view of philosophy; the view of psychology and the view of society.) of John Dewey's curriculum theory.The second part is the basic viewpoints of John Dewey's curriculum theory . 1 .curriculum design: Children, knowledge and society are united .2.curriculum pattern: the combination of active curriculum and subject curriculum. 3.curriculum implement: Teaching and curriculum are united .4.curriculum judgemend: Both external worth and internal worth are important.The third part is the judgement of John Dewey's curriculum theoy. It is a perfect theory ,but there are some problems in practice.The forth part is its inspiration to modernity.1 .Initiative:To give play to the initiative of children, and to regard initiative study as an important way.2.Inquiry:Knowledge is inquiry,and to regard inquiry study as an important way .3.Pratice:The design and implement of curriculum should train synthetical practice ability of studentsASynthesis: Synthetical curriculum can train the synthetical ability of students.
