In today's rapidly changing society, China is experiencing a period of multi-cultures when relatively stable new cultural regulations haven't yet come into being. There exist conflicts between as well as harmonies of the conventional and the contemporary cultures, and Chinese cultures and cultures of other nations. It brings us opportunities of reform and development of school education and, at the same time, shocks and challenges. Under the circumstances, what is Chinese education at school doing? And what cultural mission does it shoulder? These are the new questions raised in this paper. The author tries to explore the influence of the multi-cultures on school education and how school education can serve its cultural function. Then the author makes examinations and analysis of school Chinese education as the followings. First, the author observes our Chinese classroom and analyzes the students' cultural traits in the multi-cultural environment. Influenced by multi-cultures, new traits have appeared in the students' cultures, especially in their values. Young students today haven't inherited much excellent Chinese culture, and blindly accept various cultures. Second, the author looks closely at the present situations of our Chinese education and finds that many teachers are satisfied with "Classroom teaching and care little about whart is happening outside the classroom". Because their understandings of the students' cultures are very limited and Chinese education lacks active replies to the impact of multi-cultures, many conflicts appear between normal school Chinese education and cultures out of school which don't conform to our standard culture and greatly influence the young students. This can reflect that the mainstream of our culture (or standard culture, educational culture) has lost its status of absolute correctness among the students. Why is there in our Chinese education lack of the concept and tactics to actively reply the impact of multi-cultures? The author explores two possible reasons: (1) the constraints of our testing system; (2) the influence of our conventional education. Then, what can our Chinese education do to deal with them? The paper makes some suggestions from new perspectives: harmonize our traditional culture with modern culture; in comparative method to distinguish different cultures from literatures and cross-cultures, to accept different cultures critically; and try to make the students gradually establish their correct outlooks of life and values in Chinese education. The main purpose of the study is to make it clear that the culture missions of school Chinese education are: (1) to inherit our excellent national culture and establish our national spirit; (2) to develop students' good multi-cultural judges and enhance the power and the creativeness of our national culture; (3) to realize that Chinese teachers should be a researcher at the same time. To fulfill the cultural mission of Chinese education means that Chinese education should not only pass on cultures but also help strengthen the power and creativeness of our national culture. It embodies the notion that Chinese education should pay attention to students' development and their future and develop their active and positive personalities. And this is the urgent demands of globalization.
