Traditional chemistry teaching faces the challenge of era. The new round of subject reform aims to improve the ss' science quality, and requests renewal from target to the idea, to the contents, to the method, to the evaluation, etc.. .The cognitive tool of concept maps which represents, checks, corrects, perfects knowledge clearly reveals the nature of meaning construction by arranging various concepts and their relationship in the same way as the brain hierarchically stores knowledge. It works not only in dealing with the relationship between course and teaching design, teaching and learning, promoting students' advanced thinking and the abilities in resolving problems, but also brings good effect in corporative study. But the there is little research of concept maps in chemistry teaching, so this paper chooses the application of concept maps in chemistry teaching as the research task.First, on the basis of introducing the connotation and meaning of concept maps, the paper looks for its own theoretical system and the corresponding theories. Second, the paper analyzes the function of concept maps according to the characteristics of senior chemistry and the way students study it. Third, the paper raises and concludes the applied strategies in chemistry teaching. Finally, it does some experimental researches to see if concept maps can effectively improve teaching and study. The result shows that concept maps can effectively improve students' study, their academic degree and the quality of chemistry teaching.
