The idea of harmonious education is a part of traditional culture both in east and west, which can be traced back to thousands years ago. As one of the patterns of quality-oriented education, the applications of the idea in primary and secondary education have been proved to be very successful recently, but the theoretical research and practices of the idea in terms of higher education are obviously far from enough. This paper starts from the origin of harmonious education, and analyzes the theoretical basis and the essence of the idea. With a sound understanding of the possible influence, the necessity and importance of the implementation of the idea in higher education are discussed. Constructing harmonious target system which is suitable for the subjects of higher education, strengthening the concept and quality of harmony of the subjects and implementing harmonious concept which is beneficial to the subjects are proposed to ensure the realization of the operation mechanism of harmonious education and make the application of the idea in higher education a reality.
