| Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL), as the term suggests, was introduced for assisting language learning. It has been seen as an effective way to enhance language learning. The present research attempts to investigate on this increasingly important aspect of the CALL study- the learners, on the relationship of their motivation, autonomy, self-concept and their performance in CALL listening, and the effectiveness of CALL.Based on previous researches on the effectiveness of CALL, and on motivation, autonomy, and self-concept in language learning, the research collects data by means of questionnaire administered to 238 students in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, where English is a major. Their CALL course grades and that o f previous traditional listening are also collected to test the statistical effectiveness of CALL for the learning of listening.Results indicate that CALL listening is effective in aiding language learning in motivation, autonomy, and self-concept, that CALL listening is effective for the learning of listening, that students' motivation, autonomy, self-concept and their listening performance through CALL may function one to another, on both direction, that degree of motivation, autonomy and self-concept influences the effects they make, and that CALL listening is able to take the place of traditional classroom teaching.The study shows that such factors as motivation, autonomy and self-concept have high correlation with learners' listening performance through CALL, and they affect the effectiveness of CALL for listening. |
