The educational system of the senior middle schools in our country has been a double-track one, general senior middle schools and secondary vocational schools. With the rapid development of society and economy, people have stronger wishes to receive a higher level education, but the double-track system results in a dilemma in the rural areas. On the one hand, only a small part of the graduates from general senior middle schools are admitted to colleges and universities; the rest of them have to enter the labour market to seek jobs. Now general senior middle schools have been playing the role of preparing the students for the college entrance examinations. They attach too much importance to the teaching of academic knowledge but ignore the training of vocational skills. As a result, the graduates are unable to adapt themselves to the fierce competition in the labor market without the basic vocational ideology and skills. On the other hand, secondary vocational schools highly value the training of vocational skills, but pay little attention to the education of general academic knowledge and the training of scientific ways of thinking, which brings about the fact that graduates from these schools are short of potential and difficult to get further development. This thesis analyzes the present situation of senior middle schools in the rural areas and the requirements that the development of rural society and economy put to education. It indicates the necessity to reform the structure of senior middle schools. The author tries to establish the operating model of rural comprehensive high schools by exploring the theoretical basis, educational aims, curriculum provision, school system, operating principles and measures., with the purpose of guiding the operation of rural senior middle schools. The thesis consists of five parts: 1 .introduction 2.the comprehensive high school is the inevitable choice in the development of rural senior middle schools 3.the theoretical basis of establishing the model of rural comprehensive high schools 4.the structure of the model of rural comprehensive schools. 5 .the operating principles and measures of rural comprehensive schools...
