Feng Guifen(1809-1874)was a famous thinker of modern Chinn. Most of his reform thoughts are reflected in Protests from the Jiaobin Studio,which is regarded as his representative work. In his ideology of educational reform,the thought of Western Applying that embodied the characteristics of the times is the essence of his educational thoughts.The decline of traditional education,the needs for training new talents, and the understanding of Western and domestic civilizations are the main reasons to inspire Feng to put forward the thought of adopting Western educational reform. Based on the educational reform of Western Applying, Feng proposed the establishment of new type of schools and the improvement of teaching contents. His educational reform thought were reflected in the two aspects, statecraft and Westernized Chinese, and it had the distinctive characteristics of the times and represented the Chinese style. Of all his reform thoughts, Western Applying was comparatively early practiced in that time. The thought was quite practical because it accurately reflected the developing trends of the society and the extent of the traditional cultural conflict. The thought and practice of Western Applying was not only a criticism of traditional Chinese feudal education but also had a major impact on the education of Westernization Movement, and most importantly, it was a turning point in modern Chinese education.
