In the 1960's,with the further development of the civil rights movement,multicultural education gradually has arisen in the United States, especially in the U.S. universities in order to study the history of various cultural inherent attributes, democratic genera and relativity as the main content, scholars constructed on the equal open basis of the new culture trend, has risen multiple coexist. Multicultural education from concept to thought, from the ideological trend to sports, from sports to practice, it was in the peak in the 1980s at the university and became mainstream. However, during the 1990s American multicultural education encounter challenges, into the deep reflection period. until the 21st century,, with claiming equilibrium and bridging as its multicultural conflict education,began to be paid attention to it by people. Culture education need diversified development of proposition, is no longer merely a theory problem, but also a practical problem. why will American multicultural education appear wavering, this complex historical process of multi-ethnic country balance for mainstream culture relationship with other culture, from the pursuit of racial absolute equality, to go out pitfalls for real differences for equality, promote intercultural communication and blending, make all sorts of culture in evolution and discard, development and fusion process in reaching new financing, to the highest state of multicultural education-"multivariate co-prosperity but different". This paper is divided into five parts, the first part discusses the research basis and the achievement at the beginning, the second part explains the historical background of multicultural education in the United States, the third part has introduced American multicultural education encountering challenges into reflection since 1990s, taken seriously again, and to a global multicultural education development change in the new century, multicultural education is expanding into global to the specific situation changes in the fourth part,then analyzes the reason of encountering challenges of multicultural education in the United States,the last is the conclusion.
