The principle concepts of biological science teaching in a new round curriculum reform are to enhance biological literacy of the students', better service for all the students, let them to advocating to inquiry-based learning ability and pay more attention to the reality of our society. Teaching evaluation based on the new concept also needs to be reformed. Evaluation is no longer confined to evaluate students' records of their scores, but to better know their learning comprehension, help them to find out and solve their own learning problems as early as possible, as well as help teachers to overcome the weakness and make progress through the evaluation. Therefore, based on the concept of the new curriculum, the standardized tests'scores as sole evaluation index we used to judge student achievement can not meet the present teaching requirement. Portfolio assessment takes its unique advantage as a process of evaluation.Portfolio assessment is a system to collect information about student achievement, works etc that are stored in some appropriate ways (folder, network) to help students, teachers, parents and schools to follow students' learning, growing up, development process, charactor formation, comprehension and objective evaluation of the progress of students and increase learning interest as well as strengthen the confidence of students.Portfolio assessment pays great attention to the process evaluation, improves self-critism ability, development, learning process, study subjectivity of students. This evaluation itself is alos an objective way and can effectively promote the implementation of teaching according to their aptitude Biology is a highly speculative subject scientifically and focuses on improving the tecnical skills, the logical and rational thinking and the biological perspective of the solving-problem of students. It also allows students to learn several ways of thinking as abstract, induction, inference, deduction, etc. portfllio assessment can not only show the dynamic process of mental development, learning status, efforts, achievements, learning methods and strategies of students, but also allows teachers to make some appropriate and constructive suggestions to students for their future development plan, learning and growth process. Therefore, this article discussed how to use portfolio assessment in high school biology curriculum from two aspects of theory and practice.The first chapter describes the background and significance of the portfolio assessment application in high school study of biology and the research methods used in this study; the second chapter describes the concept,characteristics and theoretical basis of portfolio assessment; The third chapter describes the application of portfolio assessment in biology learning of high school and then explores the two important aspects of biology learning to practice.The fourth and the fifth chapter include the conclusions, suggestions and some self-evaluations.This study, based on the characteristics of high school biology curriculum and the questionnaire analysis of some high school biology teachers, proposes what information or materials and precautions the portfolio assessment should take. This study also provides two practical study cases in cooperative learning and bio-examination learning of biology. Taken togather, this study may provide other educational researchers with some useful reference information.
