The purpose of language learning is communication. Therefore, to develop students' ability to communicate in English is the ultimate goal of teaching. Oral English test is the important means to test students'ability of communication. This thesis tries to explore a model of oral test for junior middle schools, which is effective, feasible and suitable.The thesis is written after studying the relevant literature, questionaire, doing the oral English test experiment and collecting some first-hand information.Chapter One discusses the research background, purpose and significance. The specific oral English requirements for junior middle schools have been written in the newly issued English Curriculum Standard, which holds that it's necessary and important to have oral English tests in middle schools. Chapter Two introduces the research of oral tests at home and abroad. Chapter Three reviews the historical development of language testing, the classification of the oral test, scoring methods and assessment of these points. Chapter Four discusses the result of the survey about oral test in Qianjiang middle schools. Chapter Five explains the model of oral test, which focuses on the purpose of testing, test objects and features of test content, test forms, test items and test results of the evaluation. In the model, the test is testing mainly for pronunciation, tone, interpersonal skills, to take direct oral test, self-introduction and daily conversation, reading and role play, scoring by holistic scoring and analytic scoring.Chapter Six introduces the description of the complete oral test. The purpose of the experiment, test samples chosen, testing supplies, preparation of the sample, experimental environment, the test preparation of the examiners are explained here. After the experiment, the thesis carries out the analysis of the results, reliability analysis, validity analysis, feasibility analysis, and analysis of the questionnaire.Finally, it can be concluded that though the organization of oral test is cumbersome, it is definite necessary to do so and it is feasible. The thesis has also pointed out the limitations of the experiment and the problems to be investigated and resolved.
