Vocabulary is not only the basis of learning English but also a headache for high school students. in learning English. In recent years, with the advancing of new course criteria of senior English, English teachers as well as students are increasingly expected too much. So how to teach vocabulary is a problem to be solved. This thesis conducts a deep research on vocabulary teaching, designs and carries out effective vocabulary teaching methods to improve students' learning efficiency and get twice the result with half the effort.This thesis is significant in terms of the lexical theory and lexical teaching techniques. Firstly, it states the lexical teaching importance, the research goal and the significance and raises the lexical teaching issue which is more time-consuming and inefficient. Then the thesis closely analyzes its primary reason that the teachers lack the lexical knowledge teaching and vivid interesting class lexical teaching activities and the students are short of lexical learning method strategies and so on. And it emphasizes that vocabulary teaching is very important in English teaching. During the teaching process, the teachers should learn more about the demands of the students and design effective class activities to help students learn vocabulary easily. At the same time, teachers should develop students' ability to use the lexical learning strategies. This thesis aims to design class activities suitable for students to arouse students' interest and teach them how to use vocabulary strategies, thus enlarging their vocabulary effectively and helping them improve language use. These activities stimulate students' initiative of remembering words, and attempt to solve the problem of students' poor utilization ability, so that students can grasp and expand their vocabulary in the limited time.In view of the questions above, in the third charpter, the author discusses six effective lexical teaching methods as follows:"collecting seashell", "guessing words games", "light shinning in all directions", " envelope competition game", "sentence auction game", "textual exchange game" on the foundation of lexical teaching's content and the lexical learning strategies. After 16 weeks'lexical teaching activities and lexical learning strategy training, results from comparison and analysis statistics from the questionnaire survey and information from the interview show that 93.8% of the students are satisfied with these lexical teaching methods, who can take an active part in the activities and 76.9% of the students think they are effective in learning vocabulary. In the end, based on the results of the experimental teaching, the author also offers some suggestions on how to make adaptations of the activities, for example, teachers should update teaching ideology, and improve teaching techniques. Flexible forms are useful to arouse students'interest in language learning and so on.In this thesis, the author takes a premier exploration of effective classroom activities for lexical learning, hoping that it can offer some implication on practical teaching and at the same time inspire future research.
