This study attempts to track process on the Fresh Master's Student in the first semester about daily life, learning, interpersonal relationships of adaptation to explore the identity of "NJU People ". The research is based on in-depth interviews with 8 students from different faculties using convenience sampling method. There are two rounds interviews from the beginning of November,2010 to the end of February,2011. Through the interview content's analysis draw the research conclusion.Judging from the actual results of interviews, after integration and commissioning of a semester, students basically adapt the graduate life. Schoolmates' expression does not have the barrier on the daily life adjustment. the problem focused on "learning" and "interpersonal relation" aspects. In the first round of interview, nearly all schoolmates put forward their own opinions about the teaching arrangement. Liberal arts students hope more interaction in class. In terms of science and engineering students, it's quite obvious problem in the curriculum which give less leeway to them. These questions in the second round of interview is more prominent, even has had a more negative influence to the individual's study. the students generally reflected the contact range narrower on interpersonal aspect. Meanwhile, the mentor plays an extremely important role in students' life, not only in studies but also in interpersonal interaction. The contacts pattern between students and mentors are different because they are in different discipline. There are also some affairs they all involve in.1) Romance and marriage which are the universal issues to graduate students, have a quite important influence on their study and life.2) The university and college pay little attention and offer few help in entire semester's adaptation process of students. They are almost'one man in the combat'. Just as'adaptation','identity' is also a dynamic process of development. For the students who participate in the interviews, the adaptation process in first semester is also the construction journey about the identity of'NJU People'. Each of them having a different adaptation feeling grows special recognition of identities. There are may be two levels for this particular identity:â‘ In this article,'NJU People' only refers to graduate student of Nanjing University.â‘¡The identity of'NJU People' is merely based on Nanjing University. Because the interview only through the first semester, students pay much attention on adaptation of external environment and internal mentality. The identity of'NJU People' is still shaping. And the main influencing factor is as follows: 1) The experience and recognition of the undergraduate academy; 2) Different discipline background and concentration; 3) The mentors/teachers'personal example and verbal instruction; 4) the emphasis on university's tradition in Freshmen Education of School/College. The identity of'NJU People' is still constructing for the majority of students. But they have an agreement on the connotation; that is'Homo Academicus'. Nanjing University is the place which suitable to engage in scholarship as well as Nan Jing. The atmosphere has inherited through the history and culture of them. After several vicissitudes, the atmosphere, which still continues to accumulate, formed these prominent characteristic of Nanjing University and 'NJU People' gradually.
