Concentration is one of the most important prerequisites for a successful class. Introducing the humanistic theory into English teaching, this research has applied the way of teaching experiment and questionnaire in this paper, so as to draw a series of suggestions and methods to help students concentrate on what they are learning, and maximize the effects of English learning. This thesis is based on the teaching theory of humanism, which believes that the goal of education should take the learner as the center. Resting on learner's developmental characteristics and demands, it is intended to promote the students'individuality development, their potential and creativity. To master the characteristics of the attention span of the senior middle school students in the English classrooms, this research firstly collected relevant data of the teachers and students with questionaires respectively. The teachers'questionaire was to make clear the application of attention theory in class, while the students'questionnaire was to examine the factors that could attract their attention and how teachers could attract their attention effectively. Based on the results of the questionnaires, this thesis proposed a hypothesis, i.e., timely and proper control of the students'attention in English classrooms can improve their learning efficiency. To verify this hypothesis, the researcher conducted a teaching experiment by choosing two well-matched classes, one of which was the experimental class and the other was the control class. With the same Curriculum Standards and teaching time, the teaching of experimental class was based on the characteristics of attention, while the control class followed the conventional manner. The results of the experiment proved that timely and proper control of the students'attention in English classrooms can improve their learning efficiency.
