Adaptation of international students has always been a hot topic in the field of intercultural communication. Chinese international students often suffer from the following adaptation difficulties: language problems, academic issues and performance, lack of information about services and facilities, financial problems, psycho-sociocultural issues, such as intercultural communication difficulties, and discrimination from others.China has been sending out students to other countries since the late Qing Dynasty; the work-study Program in France after May 4th Movement had attracted a great number of students to France. Currently, France is one of the biggest international student receiving nations, with more and more Chinese students going there. However, not much research has been done on adaptation of Chinese students in France, as most has focused on the United States. This thesis delves into three research questions: 1. What is the relationship between emotion regulation, acculturative stress and acculturation level? 2. What is the relationship between social support, acculturative stress and acculturation level? 3. Do demographic variables impact acculturative stress and acculturation level in a particular way?The author applied quantitative methods to investigate 132 respondents, and used SPSS software to perform a reliability test, t-test, ANOVA and regression analysis. The major findings conclude that demographic information affects individual's acculturation level and acculturative stress in a significant way; suppression strategy and acculturation level can predict acculturative stress, while acculturative stress is a predictor of acculturation level.
