In this thesis, the author tries to enhance to the effect of English teaching by applying English movies to listening and speaking training in junior schools. If we could introduce more fresh teaching methods through such as English movies and use it in current English classrooms, it is certain that students will benefit from it. Hereby are the main reasons:1) Adoption of English movies into teaching is not difficult to implement, and this can be performed with just the available equipment and selected audio-video materials.2) English movies contain integrated information with the help of audio and visual stimuli.3) English movies not only arouse students'interest in English and develop students' intercultural communicative competence, but also cultivate students'listening and speaking abilities.English movies have long been used in language teaching both at home and abroad, but they're mostly used in colleges and universities. So far few studies have been carried out in junior schools. With focus on the application of English movies in English teaching, the present paper attempts to explore in this field.This paper includes the following three aspects:1) Learning motivation and English movies;2) Intercultural communicative competence and English movies;3) The application of English movies in listening and speaking abilities.The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter briefly reviews the studies from both home and abroad. The second chapter gives an overview of the feasibility and necessity of English films. The third chapter discusses classroom application of English movies and the analysis of the experiment. The fourth chapter concludes that the use of English films should be improved and more efforts should be developed.
