This thesis analyzes the impact of a competition law to an economy. Using China as the case, the author uses the theory of second best and monopolistic competition to show that it is not necessary the case that an economy will enjoy higher growth if adopting a first best pro-competition policy. The economics theories suggest that growth requires institutional support and in the world of second best, there needs to be a second best institution to support a better growth for the economy.
