In the 1980s, Andrew S.Rancer and his teacher Dominic Infante offered a definition of aggression in interpersonal communication.:An interpersonal behavior may be considered aggressive if it applies force physically or symbolically in order, minimally, to dominate and perhaps damage or, maximally, to defeat and perhaps destroy the locus of attack. The locus of attack in interpersonal communication can be a person's body, material possessions, self-concept, position on topics of communication, or behavior. Aggressive communication is most often controlled by four predispositions that interact with environmental factors to influence an individual's approach to conflict resolution. These four predispositions are classified as either constructive or destructive. Assertiveness and argumentativeness are viewed as constructive predispositions, whereas, hostility and verbal aggressiveness are viewed as destructive predispositions.Although those specific terms for aggression communication in contemporary Chinese language are relatively new to many of Chinese people, the concept and practices of aggressive communication have been in Chinese culture and society since the very beginning of Chinese civilization. In ancient times, the Chinese people have paid strongly attention on the strategy and skills of aggressive communication. They have accumulated many useful experience about it. At the same time, there was some passive ideology such as "harmony is most precious", "Doctrine of the mean" in traditional culture of China, which reflected that our Chinese people were not good at attacking initiatively. In modern times, in order to be brought in line with international practice at the background of economic globalization and integration, we should adopt the approach of constructive aggressive communication to promote ourselves and express our point of view to others. Meanwhile, in the social life of various communication environment, we can enhance the effect of communication using the theory of aggressive communication. For example, the student's activity and enthusiasm would have been advanced if the teacher took argument as the way to communicate with them in the classroom.Combined with the personality of Chinese people and the theory result of aggressive communication, we should actively promote the construction of conception of aggressive communication with Chinese characteristics, such as being considerate of each other, articulating one's own views and resist the language violence. When conflict occurs, we encourage the use of appropriate skills of language aggressiveness to resolve conflicts, avoid conflict and build a harmonious society. Furthermore, research of aggressive communication in different culture is meaningful to strengthen communication and intercourse in the world even helpful to build a harmonious world.
