Bernard Lewis is an authority in the field of the history in the Middle East and he has more works than any other authors. His study mainly focuses on politics, religion, nation in the Middle East and the impact of the western upon the Middle East. Lewis's viewpoints have been agreed by most scholars of international academy, yet received a little criticism. And the comprehensive research and systemic estimate of Lewis's views are not enough except quoting as proof or evidence in some Chinese History books. So the purpose of this thesis is firstly summing up Lewis's viewpoints about culture, politics, nation in the Middle East, and then getting a conclusion of its advantage and disadvantage. An Introduction to Lewis's view wish to give necessary complements for the domestic study of history in the Middle East.There are five parts in this thesis. Lewis's life and academic achievement have been recommended in the Introduction. The Lewis's Viewpoint about the Islam culture and its history, the Politics history in the Middle East, the history of Arabian nation are summed and talked from chapter two to chapter four in thesis. The last chapter is the evaluation of Bernard Lewis's View, also a conclusion of this thesis. We can gain that Lewis's views about the questions of the Middle East are incisive, and some of which are against traditional view but persuasive. Lewis'proposition how to resolve the problem of the Middle East is reasonable. Lewis'viewpoints about history of Middle East are entirety and synthesize. Although views on the history of Middle East politics are all-round, some of them may be not realistic, and parts of the views about Islamic culture have been greatly criticized by others. So we need all-around understand, analyze and evaluating objectively to his viewpoints.
