Study On Russia's National Identity And The Choices Of Its Diplomatic Strategy

In the past two decades of independence, Russian developed circuitously with bringing changes to the international situation.Any kind of the choices of Russia's foreign strategy can't appear accidentally."where Russia will go eventually?"According to the view of Constructivism school, the international system of anarchy is a social construction and the national interest is a variable, which is not changeless in accordance with nation's practice and the community's intention based on these changes occurred. The way how to define national identity determines the choices of acception or rejection on the positioning of the identity of national interest. A nation's unique self-identity held by that particular country is determinant for national interest .In the world, Russia is an unique nation which it integrates with the East and the West with the desire to in sharp opposition with the West. Which become the world's second-rate country suddenly that had been one of the world-class super-powers .But now it seems that it has increasing power to rise abruptly again. Russia has unique influence of geostrategy across the Eurasian continents.Resultly,any decision of Russia's major strategic adjustment will have a profound impact to the development of the system of each region and even the world's political and economic system.The degree of cooperation and conflict varies indifferent strategies .How Russia defines its identity and makes it's foreign strategy is the central discussion in this paper .What this paper discusses the self- identity of the Russian State mainly refers to the identity of national strength. The so-called national strength, also known as comprehensive national strength, which is defined as the sum of the capability and the forces that a country owns actually. In this paper, two obvious big stages are classed to define the self- identity of Russia's national comprehensive strength and to illuminate the affiliation between Russia's self-identity of comprehensive national strength and that framework of choices of Russia's diplomatic strategy . One is Yeltsin in power and the other epoch that Putin had been in power. Finally,the author will carry out short-term outlook towards the foreseeable future of the country. Through the test of the causal relations between the identity of national strength and diplomatic strategy of Russia, it has expected to affirm"Russia Rehabitation Theory"theoretically and empirically.
