France And America's Relations After-Cold War

In the first part of this article it has suggested the change between France and the United States during the Cold War and the post-Cold War,in order to highlight the Cold War has deeply affected the relationship between the two countries.During the Cold War,France could develop relations with the Soviet Union,and use it as a diplomatic bargaining counter when France meets the United States.France thinks European integration is an important way to become a great power,and also a way to increase its voice in the world.However,due to the common enemy of the Soviet Union,while withdrew from NATO;France still could not change the subordinate status to the United States.In 20 century 90s,the Cold War had ended and US-European common defense is not as import as before..Also there is not too much to consider in this aspect.Foreign policy and action were adjusted from their own interests and position.The contradiction between France and the United States embodies the characteristics of post-Cold War era:the attribution of the European initiative,sharp struggle between the interests of world and differences between world orders.Because similar ideology, social system and common interests has existed between France and the United States, after the adhesive,Cold War,ablated,even there were numerous conflicts between the two countries,they can still be allies.The United States hopes to build the post-Cold War US-led unipolar world,while France hopes to build partnerships with the United States on an equal footing.The differences and contradictions of the strategic objectives between France and the United States have expressed concentrated on the Iraq War.Bilateral relations between France and the United States is a microcosm of the relationship between Europe and the United States,reflects the confrontation of unipolar and multipolar,which has have a profound impact of the international situation.
