Three decades after family planning policy implementation, the first generation of only child, the current youth of China, comes of marriageable age. It is very meaningful to look into the marriage of first generation "one-child" and to discuss the resulting demographical and sociological issues. In this article, I perform a primary analysis of marriage stability in the first only child generation, compared with that of preceding generations (non-singletons), and discuss the different features in terms of demology, sociology, economics and psychology. My analysis is based on the related studies in both China and overseas, and 1% spot check information from population investigation in Shanghai in 2005 and census in 2000.This article includes three main sections:In the first section, I will explain the major theoretical basis employed in this study. I will describe the initiation and current status of "one-child" policy and summarize the founding of the domestic and international studies. In the second section, I will discuss the marriage stability in only child generation based on the statistical analysis of data collected in Shanghai and country wise. I will also discuss some specific features based on individual cases. In the third section, I will further explore the sociological consequence of the marriage of first only child generation. In this article, based on the analysis of long-term only child marriage investigations country wise, I show the marriage of first only child generation since "one-child" policy especially that of female only child, is more stable compared with both contemporary non-singletons and the only child of the same age from preceding generations. I further demonstrate that the instability in the marriage of first singleton generation may results from both the weakness of singleton personality and the contemporary social environment. Keep the stability of marriage in the contemporary youth generation is essential to the stability of society. Therefore, it is important to bring up the urgency of solving the instability in the singleton marriage. Optimizing both family and society environment and education in singleton marriage may help to improve the stability of singleton marriage.
