On The Coexistence Of Various Religious In Xinjiang And Its Influence On Building The Harmonious Society

Since ancient times, Xinjiang has been a multi-ethnic, multi-religious region. Ancient Silk Road, stretching thousands of miles, made the Mainland of China, Central Asia and the Western countries closely linked. Thanks to the special geographical location, Xinjiang has become the place where different kinds of religions disseminated and interchanged here. In the Xinjiang's history, a variety of religions had spread here, but it has always been carried on the basic situation that is "an education-based, multi-religious coexistence." Religions are closely linked with every aspect of the Xinjiang's social life and have the profound influence on it. Today religions in Xinjiang have had an earth-shaking change, showing that a variety of religions coexist in harmony in a new situation. In current, under the time main melody of building a socialist harmonious society, various religions coexisting in harmony inevitably has deep-seated implications on constructing the Xinjiang harmonious society.At present, Xinjiang's religious studies are mostly from the angle of history or from the angle of a particular religion's social function. However, the study from the angle of the coexisting of the various kinds of religions is less. This paper will be divided into three parts to make an attempted research on the coexisting of a variety of religions in Xinjiang and its influence on building the harmonious society. In the first part, the author made a general analysis on the formation and evolution of a variety of religions coexisting in Xinjiang from the perspective of historical development. Furthermore, the author also pointed out the situation that Xinjiang's people mainly believe the Islamism and still many kinds of religions coexist is the extension of history and it is closely related with Xinjiang's special geographic position, the prevailing social, economic life and the ruling class's religious policy,etc..In the second part, the author mainly focused on the study of Xinjiang religious status after the founding of New China, and the reason of the coexsiting of a variety of religions. The author also pointed out that the coexisting of a variety of religions after the founding of new China was essentially different from its past. Nowadays, a variety of religions can coexist on the grounds of religion in their own social changing, the guidance of the Party's policy of freedom of religious belief, seeking common ground while maintaining difference inter-religions, mutual tolerance, religious believers hold the same gold in the socialist modernization and the consistency of many other reasons.In the third part, through elaborating the basic issues of a harmonious society, multi-religious coexistence and the relationship between religious harmony and social harmony, the author pointed out that the various religions coexisting in harmony had positive impact on Xinjiang social stability, economic development, civil moral construction, and other aspects.Through elaborating these three parts, the author eventually came to the viewpoints and conclusions in this paper: After the founding of New China, Xinjiang variety of religions coexisting situation is the extension of history, but is essentially different from its past. Various religions in the China are legally entitled to equal status; inter-religions, intra-religions, religion and the society can maintain a harmony relationship; a variety of religions has been able to coexist in harmony; all of these thank to the religions themselves have a close relationship with the party's religious policy and the Chinese traditional culture. Under the general background of building a harmonious society in Xinjiang, we should further strengthen inter-religious dialogue and communication, give full play to the religious characteristics and advantages and tap religious doctrine and theories which linked to the positive factors of ethics in order to make a greater contribution for the construction of a harmonious society.
