| During the historical process of China's revolution, construction and reform, intellectuals have always been a very important issue. After a long period of practical development and theoretical distillation, our Party has formed an integrated set of theories about intellectuals. Deng Xiaoping , as the Party's core of the second-generation collective leadership, always upheld the Marxist standpoint, correctly evaluated the status and role of intellectuals, making an important contribution to the Party's theory on intellectuals. Especially, after the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, along with the development of China's socialist modernization, Deng developed a more in-depth awareness of the intellectuals' problem and gradually formed an integrated system. To re-learn and study Deng Xiaoping's theory on intellectuals can help us understand Deng Xiaoping Theory comprehensively and accurately, give full play to the role of intellectuals in the modernization, and promote the rapid development of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.This paper is formed by four parts to discuss Deng Xiaoping's theory about intellectuals. The first part describes the historical clues of the development of Deng Xiaoping's theory about intellectuals with historical methods, which includes the preliminary understanding of intellectuals, the basic formation and development of his theory on intellectuals. The second part discusses the main contents of Deng Xiaoping's theory on intellectuals, which includes his arguments of intellectuals' class attributes, the status and role of intellectuals, contributions to develop and implement the party's policy toward intellectuals, and re-clarification of the standards for measuring intellectuals' political attitudes. The third part explores the basic characteristics of Deng Xiaoping's theory on intellectuals, which focuses on three points: outstanding the importance, mobilizing enthusiasm and the stability of policies. The forth part addresses the significance Deng Xiaoping's theory on intellectuals from three points: promote the party's leadership and ability to govern, promote the construction of three civilizations, and enhance the quality of the Chinese nation. |
