With the development of China's modernization drive, public policy begins to play an irreplaceable role in the coordination of relations of interests among various social groups and in the realization of sound and healthy social development. More often than not, the lack of gender awareness in public policy tends to lead to the marginalization of women's interests. This paper applies research in gender issues, a fairly new research perspective and research methods in China, to the research in public policy, gives an analysis on public policies and discusses the impact of public policy on women's political participation and strategies to address it.It firstly introduces basic concept and theory of gender and public policy, and then analyzes from a gender perspective the political participation of Chinese women since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the changes in policies about women's political participation and their impacts through a case study of women's political participation in Tangshan. The lack of a gender perspective in the policies regarding women's participation is highlighted. On the basis of this, four measures for the integration of a gender perspective into the policies are given, namely to improve the laws and policies concerning women's political participation, push forward gender mainstreaming, set up and enhance a mechanism that guarantees women's political participation, which accords with China's national conditions, and to build up an enabling environment for women's political participation.
