Nationality is an important and complicated issue of international law. It is of great importance to both person and country. Nationality law is a collection of law on the obtaining, forfeiting and changing the nationality. According to the obtaining of Primitive Nationality, same countries adopt jus sanguinis, some countries adopt jus soli and same countries adopt both jus sanguinis and jus soli. Marriage and adoption can also lead to obtaining and forfeiting nationality. There are different principles and rules about nationality and different country adopts different principles, which cause dual nationality. Traditionally, dual nationality can cause serious consequence to the person, the belonged country and the other country, so society of nations attempts to eliminate dual nationality by national legislation or signing a treaty. Principle of one nationality for one person means one person can only have one nationality at a time and principle of one nationality for one person does not admit dual nationality. Principle of one nationality for one person can avoid dual nationality effectively. However, under the background of globalization, dual nationality not only gains the leniency from society of nations, but also turns to be the legislative trend of the nationality law. Nationality law of the People's Republic of China in 1980 adopts the principle of one nationality for one person and does not admits dual nationality. Although this principle to some extent played a positive role in history, at present, some of the provision seem to revolt against the respect for human rights and do harm to the settlement of the nationality conflicts. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the amendment of the Nationality law. The suggestion is that to abolish the rigid principle of one nationality for one person and admit the dual nationality.
