Shanghai Cooperation Organization has become an important force in today's world politics since its establishment. As a regional cooperation organization, the geographical proximity among its members is one of the most direct factors of its establishment and development. While geopolitics is a theory which explores relations between states and their geographical context, it is an effective way to analysis the SCO comprehensively with geopolitical theory, which not only enables us to have a clear understanding of the organization's geopolitical characteristics, but also helps us make more accurate judgments of the emerging trend of the development of the organization. As theoretical basis, Chapter 2 introduces the thoughts of relationship between human and nature and presents the evolution of the world political map. Then, this chapter glances at the history of geopolitics, including its origin, development and current research. Following them is the analysis of the methods, different angles, and the significance of geopolitical research to observe international politics.Chapter 3 is the analysis of the SCO's space characteristics. By analyzing Central Asia's geopolitical features, we can see that no matter what era is Central Asia in, its geo-strategic position closely links to its relative location to other major geopolitical plates. Central Asia's location in the world political map is the key factor which influences its existence and development. Along with the development of social productive forces, culture, resources and other factors give Central Asia's geo-strategic position a new meaning.Chapter 4 deals with strategic choices and interactions among geopolitical actors of the SCO. Based on their own strength, Central Asian member countries have been actively participating in the SCO's construction and development to protect their own political and economic independence and stability. As SCO's leading countries, China and Russia have great strategic interests in the Central Asian region. And the SCO is a reasonable and effective manner for China and Russia to achieve their strategic goals in Central Asia and even the whole world. Shanghai Cooperation Organization provides its members with a solid platform of the economic, political cooperation. With SCO's development, the international community is paying greater attention to it, such as Turkey, India, Pakistan, Iran, Mongolia and other neighboring countries in Central Asia as well as the United States, the EU, Japan and other big countries which have taken measures to response to the SCO. All these will have a far-reaching impact on the connotation and development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. At the base of geopolitical analysis of the SCO's both space attributes and political attributes, Chapter 5 summarizes SCO's geopolitical characteristics: that is an increasingly mature geopolitical security complex, is a rapidly growing economy, and is a rising new center in Eurasia.
