This paper examines the utilization of veto in the Security Council by the United States, searching for the variants that influence veto use and determining the relation among those variants. It defines the veto in accordance with the UN Charter and Rules of Procedures of the Security Council as well as its historical background and its relationship with the modern voting mechanism. Hence the scope of veto utilization is limited on certain issues due to the acknowledged rules and repertoire of practice of Security Council. Then it argues that United States, as a hegemony state strives for the maintenance of its hegemony, the policy of which is the core value of United States foreign policy, with veto being part of it.
