The design and implementation of the U.S.'s national and regional security strategy has a profound influence on other countries and regions in the world. After the Cold War, with the rising of the economy and strategic position of Southeast Asia, the complexity, diversity and uncertainty of the security in Southeast Asia gradually aroused the attention of the U.S. The latter has made quite some big adjustment to its security strategy in Southeast Asia according to its national interest. This essay, through retrospect and comparison on the evolution of U.S.'s security strategy in Southeast Asia, gives a theoretical thinking and analysis on this subject. It summarizes the major content, characteristics of U.S.'s security strategy on Southeast Asia and the challenges it is facing. It also studies on the cooperation between U.S. and Southeast Asian countries, and then analyses the influence of U.S.'s security strategy in Southeast Asia on China. Through analysis, the essay holds that China and the U.S. have contradictory security interest in Southeast Asia. However, they also have security interest in common. China shall respect U.S.'s interest in Southeast Asian countries and expand cooperation with U.S. through strengthening dialogue, exchange and cooperation. At the same time, China shall expand multilateral cooperation under the principle of UN charter and in the framework of United Nation and attach greater importance on cooperation with ASEAN as well.
