The role of scientific and technological progress on China's economicgrowth is discussed with economic theory. The adaptability of Cobb-Douglasproduction function and Solow's remainder method to calculate contributionof sci-tech progress to China's economic growth is analysed. Considering thestate of China's economic development, a series of scientific and reasonablemethods of processing various statistical data, approximating productionfunction, estimating the output elasticity of the production factors arepresented. Econometric modeling using multilayer feedforward networkmethod is employed to fit historical data to approximate the underlyingproduction function, solving the problem of selecting the form of productionfunction. The partial derivatives of network output function are used toestimate the output elasticity of the production factors, having a solid theoryfoundation. A simple and scientific method of calculating the contributionrate of sci-tech progress is found out through careful study. And the relevantcomputer program is written in Matlab. This method is a generalization ofSolow's remainder method, more adaptable to China's economy. In chapter 5, the contribution of sci-tech progress to China's economicgrowth during the period 1979-2003 is calculated, and the calculation result issatisfactory. So the method proves to be correct and practical. At last, the results of China's economic analysis are presented, and theseresults would be of certain reference value for China's economic growth.
