The Implementation Of Contemporary American Cultural Diplomacy

Cultural factors have played an irreplaceable important role in the United States long-term diplomatic practice. The United States government cultural exchange has been intertwined with the pursuit of foreign relations throughout history. Cultural diplomacy carried out by the cultural exchange activities has become the indispensable "fourth dimension" of the contemporary U.S. foreign policy. This article started with a throughout macro-data and micro-case study of the U.S. government's foreign exchange programs. Based on the characteristics reflected during the American cultural diplomatic practice, the essay made a brief conclusive comment concerning both its success and failure. A few reflections on the Chinese cultural diplomacy are also raised.Since the 9.11 incident, the strategy role of American culture diplomacy is enhancing, but its innate nature has not changed. Although the implementation of the U.S. cultural diplomacy appears to be a tremendous success and has achieved its desired goal, the American cultural diplomacy phenomenon also met with criticism and resistance in many countries. Diplomatic practice of contemporary American culture has major reference significance to the Chinese cultural soft power building, as well as the Chinese external cultural diplomacy implementation.
