In 1980s and 1990s, the emigrants from Hongkong to Canada were approximately 400,000 and the emigrants'background was complicated and the causes were more complicated. Besides family and relative emigrants, there were commercial emigrants, investment emigrants, technical emigrants and so on. The paper studies the emigrants from Hongkong in Canada in that period from three aspects:Firstly, the cause that Hongkong residents emigrate to Canada. Hongkong has a time-honored tradition of emigration, which is both the destination of immigrants and the starting place of emigrants. The economic globalization makes Hongkong involved in the international economic competition more logically. Therefore, many financial, industrial and commercial consortium and specialists emigrate to Canada by commercial emigration. Politically, China and UK co-signed "Sino-British Joint Declaration "in 1984, which stated that China would reclaim Hongkong on Julyl,1997. Thereafter, some residents in Hongkong doubted the fulfillment of the "one nation, two systems" policy, and they were perplexed by the future of Hongkong as well as their own fate, so they emigrated to Canada to look for survival development. What's more, owing to the family reunion or getting western education, some emigrate to Canada by relative emigration. The author thinks that in order to have a scientific and just attitude towards the causes of emigration, ethical, economic, political and cultural factors should be included, avoiding exaggerating certain cause of emigrant effect. Secondly, the living condition for emigrants in Canada. The paper tries to analyze that problem through many aspects, including the quantity of the emigrants, the type of the emigrants, the living area of the emigrants, the career and achievement made after emigration, the social organization built by the emigrants in Canada, and studies and professional preferences of their children. The paper attempts to show the living condition of Hongkong emigrants in Canada. Thirdly, the influences of Hongkong emigrants on Canada. referring to influence, it is mutual and two-sided. Due to the limit of the paper length, the paper discusses the influences made by Hongkong emigrants on Canada in the following ways: Firstly, the survival ability and development ability of Hongkong emigrants greatly surpass that of the Chinese emigrants in Canadian history, especially the commercial emigrants, enterprise emigrants, intellectual and technical emigrants who take an active part in Canadian social construction and resources'allocation, and change their traditional images of hard working with abundant funds, advanced technology and unique intelligence. Secondly, the commercial investment by diligent and practical Hongkong emigrants prospers the Canadian economy, and many emigrants inexorably get involved in beneficial disputes with the white society, consequently, these commercial investment activities objectively aggravate unbalance in regional area in Canadian economic development. thirdly, Hongkong emigrants propelled Canadian multi-cultural development. In order to make a living and develop in Canada, Hongkong emigrants have to promote the development of Chinese media, expand the influence of Hongkong food, and strengthen the influence of Chinese medicine on Canadians'health. Hongkong emigrants boom and enrich Canadian multi-cultural cause in many aspects, undertake the mission of combining Chinese culture and Canadian multi-culture and of developing a harmonious culture for human beings. To be honest, it is a responsibility and pursuit for all the citizens in Canada including Hongkong emigrants to build a harmonious world. We should analyze and judge the influences of Hongkong emigrants on Canada with a historical wisdom. We should treat the mutual relation between Chinese culture and Canadian multi-culture with an scientific and objective eye.The concluding part emphasizes that we should have a rational and fair historical attitude towards the emigration from Hongkong to Canada and its influences in 1980s and 1990s:Firstly, the causes of the emigration from Hongkong to Canada are complicated, so historical judgment is needed among its political factors. secondly, Hongkong emigrants must build and improve their social organization to better their living condition in Canada. Thirdly, we should judge the influence of Hongkong emigrants on Canada realistically. Finally, after Hongkong's return to China, we should rationally analyze the Hongkong reverse immigrants.
