On Analyzing Huntington's "The Clash Of Civilizations"

Samuel P. Huntington is the Harvard University professor, world famous political scientist. About ten kinds of academics works of his mostly inquire into the theoretical questions of such fields as contemporary international politics, international relations, etc. And it has great influence in the academic circles. Among them, his "civilizations conflict theory" enjoys great prestige in the world in the academic circles, though gets both praise and blame. No matter from the angle that "the civilizations conflict theory" putting forward a kind of new research form ,or from the unique characteristic of Huntington himself, these research has both theories meanings and realistic meanings.This text is constituted by the introduction, text and conclusion. The text is divided into three parts.The first part emphasizes the backgrounds and contents of "the civilization conflicts theory" . This theory is the correction and development of the Cold War mentality in fact. Concerning the content of the theory, this text has five parts. Thereupon, the article makes positive analysis from the theoretical and realistic aspects to the theory.The second part, the article queries "the civilization conflict theory" . Huntington sees contradiction among different civilizations more, and neglects or unifies to the cooperation and coexisting among the civilizations. In fact, there are not only different and conflicts among different civilizations, but also co-operations and dialogues among civilizations. With the advancing constantly of human civilizations, the latter will be a mainstream of human development of civilizations. Take the Chinese culture taking Confucian culture as subject as an example. It is a kind of culture that has the spirits to tolerate other cultures. Secondly, from the relations betweens the civilizations and interests, the civilizations conflicts really exist. The basic reason taking place in conflict is the interests' factor.At the third part, this text analyses from three respects on the questions that "the conflict theory of the civilizations " caused. In the eyes of Huntington, the religion is a main sign of distinguishing different civilizations. In the world, the civilizations with the different religions really exists conflict. And the national problem interweaved with the religious question altogether, this requires us to pay close attention to the nationalityand religious problems. Secondly, this theory advocates the challenges to the western civilizations by the Confucian's civilization with a lot of spaces, in fact promoting "the threat of China" . The emergence of China is inevitably, but the China is peaceably rising. It is not a threat of the world, but an important force of the world peace. Thirdly, the theory thinks that the population scales is one of the most basic factors of a civilization's scales and energy. Huntington is weighed down with anxieties for the relative decline of the western people's scale. We Chinese people should establish correct views of people.The text has three aspects in innovation.
