Human resource is of vital importance for the survival and development of the enterprise today, when science and technology is developing with leaps and bounds and the market is undergoing a fierce competition. Any organization that wishes to gain advantage through talented personnel has to improve its mechanism to select members for the organization. How to select outstanding talents has become a challenge for the modern human resources management. An effective selection mechanism contributes not only to the better performance of the organization, but also the reduction of its recruitment cost. Currently, face-to-face interview, which is the main method in talents selecting, depends upon the experience and educational background of the interviewer, so the process displays great randomness. Theoretically, individuality, characterized by his/her recognition, motivation, occupational value and personal interests, acts as the basic criteria for such selection. Personality is also one of the aspects of individuality. In fact, different researchers often focus on different aspects of individuality so as to predict people's different behavior while they are working. If the measurement of personality, which is of objective nature, is introduced into the selection procedure so as to examine candidates' mentality, efficiency in personnel selection will be greatly improved and the chances of making mistakes in matching talents with suitable positions will be significantly reduced. It is worth pointing out that in introducing personality measurement into personnel selection, types of personality as the criteria to evaluate the suitability of a candidate for a position should be established first, and this is a challenge as well as the key in personality measurement.The paper intends to introduce relevant theories on personality into the study of personnel selection in China. Based on the California Psychological Inventory (CPI), the relation between personalities of the Chinese beauticians, samples in this paper, and their work performance is examined. It hoped that a conventional acquisition model for the measurement of Chinese personality is established, which will, to some extent, contribute to the study on management both at home and abroad. In addition, it is expected that the technique applied in personnel selection of the Chinese enterprises will be greatly enhanced, so as to improve the efficiency of human resources management.The reasons for choosing Chinese beauticians as the samples are as follows:First, in 2003, the GDP per capita in China reached over 1,000 dollars. According to the development history of many countries, it is a turning point of national consumption structure, since people's consumption type has transferred from the type of survival into the types of development and enjoyment, and people's consumption in beauty industry is increasing rapidly. Beauty economy has become "the fifth consumption hotspot" after real estate, automobile, telecommunications and tourism. In recent years, the beauty industry has secured 15% of increase, and its output amounts 180 billion yuan, taking up 1.8% of national economy. However, compared with developed countries, the beauty consumption per person still remains at a fairly low level, and there remain chances for its further development. It is estimated that by the year 2010, the output of beauty industry in China will have exceeded 300 billion yuan. Therefore, it witnesses great business opportunities in beauty industry. Meanwhile, owing to new development trend in this industry, spectacular changes have taken place in its market structure. To win an edge in the intensified competition drives the beauty enterprises to foresee what is going to happen in the market. The advantage of a beauty enterprise is obtained by coordinating personnel arrangement, selection and training with the general strategy of the enterprise.
