With the market increasing competition , both manufacturers and retailers are facing the problems how to meet the customers' needs quickly and effectively and to reduce the operation costs simultaneously . Under the tremendous pressures, they need to challenge the difficulties and cooperate in various ways , among which inventory-jointed cooperate is their main research field.The purpose of this paper is to research the jointly managed inventory between manufacturers and retailers .First of all, it brings forth the backgrounds and significants of the field, as well as the present research from home and abroad. It also puts forward the present issues of inventory management in the issues relevance and the resources the issues come out. Since the 1990s, the western has found many techniques of inventory management in the supply chain to solve these issues. Combining inventory management and the represent technology such as collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment, the paper gives a deep analysis to vendor managed inventory.On analyzing and summing up the relative research about inventory management in the supply chain from home and abroad, the paper explores jointly managed inventory between manufacturers and retailers in two cooperation models: manufacturer-core model, equilibrium model. The paper systematically demonstrates manage program of collaborative management of inventory between manufacturers and retailers and specific operation strategy to the two. Two inventory decisions-optimized programs assists us make inventory decisions and set a association mechanism to equal both interests . This mechanism also includes other levers such as delivery period, the way of payment. At last, it prospects a further research in the future.
