Society is ceaselessly progressing and the modern production pattern brings prosperity and development to ours human beings , but at the same time it also creates an unwanted byproduct-noise . The noise is so strong and serious that in cities it turns out a pollution. Noise pollution actually is just one of four sours of environmental pollutions .By the end of 20th century, air pollution and water pollution in developed countries have been treated effectively; yet the treatment of noise pollution lagged far behind. Thus noise pollution will become the core problem for the control of environmental pollution in this century. Beijing is to be the number one to realize modernization within 3 or 4 years and in 2008 Beijing is going to host the Olympic Games. To ensure the smooth achievement of these two goals, the treatment of noise, especially traffic noise plays a very important part. At present people increasingly put more emphasis on their living environment, particularly the environment around the living area. The sound quality in the living area and other functional areas has become one of the evaluation factors for real estate practical value .The price of houses with poor air quality or loud noise is much lower than those with good air quality or low noise .In big foreign cities and some domestic cities such as Beijing, recently-developed residential communities have encountered difficulties in selling those houses, just because the traffic noise pollution is too serious.The study of noise, home and abroad, mainly focuses on the effect of occupational exposure to noise on the people. This article is to make a study of the characteristics of the noises in the living environment and their impact on the people. Based on massive investigation and test analysis, this article also analyzes people's living and health problems caused by noises in the living environment. Furthermore, details about the effect of noise on the price of real estate will be discussed intensively and suggestions on the handling of sound environment in the living area will be offered from the following four respects: city layout, noise management, real estate development and technical control.
