The Sino-U. S relations has existed for a long time. The first voyage to China of "China Empress" in 1784 marked the beginning of interrelation between two countries. According to the history of the Sino-U. S relations as well as the features of American diplomacy to China, this essay regards the period before the 20th century as the early stage of the Sino-U. S relations. Within the development of trade and mission to China, the United States began to design its early diplomacy to China.This essay aims to demonstrate the same aggressive nature in both the United States and western powers' early diplomacy to China by discussing the background, stages and distinguishing features of early diplomacy to China of the United States.The essay is divided into the foreword and main body.The foreword firstly discusses the basic train of thought, logical structure and main content of this essay. The early diplomacy to China of the United States developed by taking part in western powers' aggressive wars against China, and its inner features make it different from others. Next, the foreword summarizes the research on it in and abroad and explains the questions and meanings.The main body is divided into three parts.The first part is about the background of the early diplomacy to China of the United States. It mainly includes the cliques of trade and mission to China, domestic construction, isolationism and weak forces.The second part explains the stages: the occurrence, formation and application.The third part pays attention to the distinguishing features. They are multiplicity of decision-making, utilitarian pragmatism and hypocrisy in idealism.By analysis of the backgrond, stages and distinguishing features of the early diplomacy to China of the United States, it aims to make clear the aggressive nature so that we can treat the Sino-U. S relations rightly.
