On American Anti-Communism And Its Political Culture Background

American anti-communism campaign has begun before October Revolution of Russia. It is mainly aiming at the radicalism which includes the communism. The typical examples includes being hostile to Paris Commune, "Red Scare" which spread all over America, and Palmer Raids which was dead against the Red Revolution. During the period between October Revolution of Russia and the Cold War, America's anti-communism attained the highest level. It represented as military intervention, economic blockade and political subversion to Soviet Union Socialism before World War Two. After the Second World War, with the appearance of the some socialistic countries in East Europe and Asia, America was further intensified its anti-communism. It not only tided up the anti-communism and anti-democracy in the states, but also showed its extreme reaction to Soviet Union, China and the other socialistic countries. After the Cold War, though America's anti-communism did not express directly, it went along with varieties of forms, such as promoting democracy, foreign policy for human rights. The produce and development of the America's anti-communism has its own profound and complicated foundation. Besides the opposition of the two regimes and ideologies of capitalism and socialism as well as the conflicts between the countries' interests, American particular political cultural background is also one of the important foundations. In the mainstream of Americans' opinion, communism is the un-American factor. Americans have the tradition of opposing the radical revolution, while communism is the most radical revolution in history. Americans have the idea of "Manifest destiny", while communism is regarded as the biggest obstacle for achieving it. Moreover, religions, interest group and Party Politics became the important motivated factors of anti-communism. In spite of Collapse of Soviet Union, drastic changes in East Europe, the end of two powers, American anti-communism will maintain. The strong socialist country, China has been developing swiftly and has been stronger, which will draw down the American hostile. However, there are common interests between China and America, therefore, China's attitude toAmerican anti-communism should keep awake on one hand, and should not response radically on the other hand.The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part objectively describes the historical evolvement of American anti-communism. Starting with the political culture, the second part explores the unique political culture background to America's anti-communism. The third part discusses how to look on American anti-communism in the new ear.
