The marketing research is a process in designing, collecting, analyzing the information that used to solve the marketing problems, and the research often gives a report at last. It appeared in the ealy 1900s in the west and come into China in the ealy 1990s. It becomes more important along with the system reforming, economy level improving and the opening policy going along in China. But the development level of that in China is lower than the developed countries. Especially in Chongqing it is just arising. On the other side, the development room of that is larger in Chongqing. It is very useful to do some study and application on that. Therefore, firstly this dissertation has introduced the development of the marketing research in America, China, and Chongqing. Secondly, the dissertation has introduced some theory and means about the marketing research. The marketing research is the research under the marketing management background, so the knowledge about the marketing management and the managerial economics is important. Meanwhile, the marketing research is the applied science, mastery of the statistics and some special software is necessary. Thirdly, it offers one case. The case is about the marketing research on 'JJX delicate decorative material marketplace'. The research is in the light of three dimensionalities, which involves marketing management, marketing research, and the case's background. The whole process about the marketing research can be shown by the case. Finally, on the one hand the dissertation considers that the decorative material marketplaces in Chongqing must be the excellent marketplace or the normal supermarket, and the position selecting must avoid the current marketplaces' competition as well. On the other hand, to quicken the development of the marketing research in Chongqing, the dissertation suggests that it's necessary for more advertising, more government's supports, more cooperating and communicating, and the marketing research must have it's own feature. In addition, when doing the marketing research, the dissertation proposes that doing in earnest and in time, thinking over the marketing management and the cases' background, improving personnel's ability, thinking much of the pretest,not depending on the marketing research entirely and so on.
