The traditional development pattern evokes reflection because of the population crisis, environment aggravation and resource exhaustion. So, the sustainable development becomes the strongest voice and a consensus of people all of the world. Most of the government have made their national strategy for sustainable development and carried it into execution. The sustainable development seek to coordinate the relation of economy, environment and society. It is a new development pattern that emphasize on not only meeting the needs of contemporary people, but also destroying the ability of offspring to meet their needs.Forest is a main body of the ecological environment system and the basis of national economic construction, while forestland is an important element in forest production. As a result, the sustainable development of forestland is the basis and safeguard of forest sustainable development. Based on the summarize of present research fruit and in view of the feature and current situation of forestland resource in China, the paper makes clear the implication of the forestland sustainable development and thoroughly analyzes it's restricted factors. At last, the paper discusses the ways to promote the sustainable development of forestland resource.In order to realize the sustainable equilibrium of regional forest supply and demand and maintain the sustained growth of forestland production, we must engage ourselves to use forestland and maintain the sustainable development of it both in quantity and in quality. By means of investigating and analyzing the conditions of forestland in China, we find that there are lots of unfavorable factors, such as limited land resources, lower utility rate, forestland reverse, complicated ownership troubles, land decay and so on. So, the paper thoroughly analyzes the reasons. Firstly, forestland operators can't gain compensation because of the outflow of ecological and societal effectiveness. Secondly, forestland markets lack impetus because it is public product. Thirdly, forestry has a long production cycle which increases the manage risk. Fourthly, there is a lower cost for possessing the forestland. Fifthly, the forest operators have high amount of tax and charge. Finally, forestland property rights system need to improve.On the basis of above analysis, the paper combines the factual situation to put forward the policy suggestion through administrative, economic and legal aspect, such as realizing gross quantity control of forestland, fairly implementing the compensation system of forest ecological effectiveness, deepening the reform of forestland property rights system, establishing forestland price system, strengthening the construction of forestry legal system, expediting the six keystone forestry projects, depending on science to improve the forestland quality and so on.
