The objective of this study is to analyse the personality traits of criminals by using both of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and the Defense Style Questionnaire (DSQ) under the concept of the Psychoanalytic theory. It also tries to explore the correlation among the functions of ego, superego and crime as well as the criminal typology;to compare the difference between criminals and normal citizens on EPQ and DSQ; to categorize the criminals as well as to compare the difference between the crmininals' category and the criminal typology. The result manifests in the Pearson' s correlation coefficients: E Dimension has significant positive but low correlation with mature and neurotic defense factors; N Dimension has significant positive correlation from medium level and decreased progressively with immature neurotic and mature defense factors; P Dimension has simular phenomenon as N Dimension while L Dimension has negative and medium level of negative correlation with pretence factor. The result shows in the differences between criminals and the normal citizens: criminals are significantly higher than the normal citizens when comparing with the E, N, L Dimensions of EPQ, but no difference with P Dimension; criminals are also significantly higher than normal citizens when comparing with immature, neurotic and mature defense factors of DSQ, but their pretence factor is significantly lower than the normal citizens. For categorizing the criminals, it is to convert the raw scores of criminals into the standard scores in order to process the cluster analysis, the result manifests that E, N, P has higher scores while L obtains lower score, under which criminals were categorized in three types as neuroticism, psychoticism and sociability. According to the categorization of criminals by EPQ, it is to compare the difference between violent and non-violent criminals, the result reveals that the violent criminals with characteristics of neuroticism and sociability are tended to be higher in ratio than the non-violent criminals, but the reverse appplies in the psychoticism. This paper has analysed the correlative and theoretical significane of the findings in the aspects of crime and personality. It can be concluded that E, N, P Dimensions of EPQ have certain kind of correlations with defensemechanisms, which are explanatory to these three dimensions in certain degree. As a whole, criminals' personality is heterogeneous and they have the personality trait of weak ego-functioning.
